In the market of free dailies paid editions are confidently pushed back by free ones

In accordance with the last data of TNS* company, free daily editions are not only present («Vecherkom») but also confidently lead («Obzor», «15 Minutes») among the TOP-10 daily paid and free newspapers.
Recent ratings results have been for many market participants unexpected, even shocking. While free dailies have shown steady audience growth results, traditional leaders – paid publications – give way to newcomers and gradually lose their position in the market. Thus, the newspaper «15 Minutes» for the second time in a row, took 2nd place in the rating among all paid and free Kiev dailies on the one-issue audience, a daily free newspaper «Obzor» with more than 314 thousands of one-issue audience –the second time takes 3rd place. Such  market leaders, as «Facty», «Gazeta Po-kievski» and «Komsomolskaya Pravda», are falling down in the rating of Kiev daily editions.
Characterizing one-issue audience growth dynamics  «Obzor» free newspaper has become the indisputable TOP-10 leader among Kiev newspapers – its growth made up 25%. One-issue audience of «15 Minutes» did not change practically – it has grown by 1%. «Obzor» half-year audience, by the same data, has grown by 37% for – also at this point the newspaper is an absolute leader on the audience growth not only in TOP-10 but also in general among all dailies, studied by TNS company. «15 Minutes» half-year audience has grown by 16 %, «Vecherkom» was presented in ratings first, taking the 7th place at once.
In response to a request to comment on the situation in the daily press market and the recent ratings provided by TNS, Manon van der Lit, Managing director of TNM (newspaper «Obzor» and website Obzor.ua), described the market of free newspapers as one of the most dynamically developing in Ukraine, but also noted that rumours about «Obzor» closure in connection with the announcement about the Dutch Telegraaf Media Group selling all its Ukrainian assets are totally groundless. According to Mrs.van der Lit, negotiations with potential buyers proceed, «Obzor» confidently looks forward and not going to reduce the planned activity. For example, it is planned for December to publish 3 special projects – applications related to New Year celebration, circulation of «Obzor» will be greatly increased in the days of their release. Launching of a new website Obzor.ua is accompanied by a major marketing campaign.
